This week, we have been putting all the knowledge we have gained over the past few weeks to make our own island map! On our map we will include human and natural features.
Here are some photographs of what we have done so far. Stay tuned for more! One of the things we are trying to focus on during English this half term is using our voice to retell a story.
For homework recently, we had the task to create a 'personal history' box. We used these boxes today to retell a story from when we were younger, using story language. For our topic on Islands, we took time to think about and discover how islands are formed.
We found out that some islands form because of the ocean getting deeper and deeper. Some volcanoes also form due to volcanoes. We then decided, for a bit of fun, to make our own volcanoes! Have a look at our pictures. Could you try it at home? In Year 2 for Spring 1, we are exploring 'Islands'.
To start our unit, we decided to draw a map of what we think an island might look like. We also labelled the human and natural features of an island. The next day we read 'Katie Morag and the Two Grandmothers'. It is a fantastic book set on an island in Scotland. We used the book to help us more features that we did not think of at first. Keep an eye on this blog page... We'll be looking at how islands are formed soon and we have some very exciting lessons planned! |
