This week in Design and Technology, Year 1 have been designing a boat for Max to get to the Wild Place in Where the Wild Things Are!
We are planning our design with some the materials we will be using. We will put up pictures of our boats when we make them. Keep an eye on our blog! In English, we decided to do some art!
We have been creating and describing our own Wild Thing. Here we are creating our Wild Thing using clay. Stay tuned to see how they turn out! On Tuesday 6th November, Year 1 visited the Kew Gardens.
We went on the trip because we are learning about Plants in Science and reading Where the Wild Things Are in English. We visited the Palm House. This is a greenhouse that has a rain forest inside. It was really warm and sweaty inside the greenhouse! We used paper and clipboards to see if we could find and draw some trees and plants that look similar to the ones in Where the Wild Things Are. What kind of trees and plants can you see in our pictures? In art this week, we have been learning about self-portraits. We have also been learning about different ways to make portraits. On Tuesday, we used pencils to draw our portraits. Then on Wednesday we used computers to create our self-portraits.
After, on Thursday, we looked at portraits by the artist Paul Klee. He used lots of lines and colour! We then decided to create our own Klee self-portrait. What shapes and colours can you see in our artworks? |
