Year 5 are participating in an animation project called Pick N'Mix.
First, we created a storyboard for the theme, which is 'our green London'. We then worked with Tracy from Rick Mix and Nicky, a professional animator from Chocolate Films, preparing our elements and backdrops and learning how use stop motion animation. Our finished film be be screened at a film festival in summer! Year 5 completing the daily mile.
They are getting better and better every week. All children are now able to complete a mile in under 11 minutes and 30 seconds, which is amazing. We also have a group of 8 to 10 children who are completing it in 10 minutes and 25 seconds, which must be a world record for 9/10 year old children. Year 5 have been studying artist who create 'cityscapes.'. We have had a closer look at the work of Stephen Wiltshire, a famous artist with Autism, who creates amazingly detailed cityscape drawings from memory. We then drew our own pictures, capturing the stunning view from our Year 5 classroom!
Year 5 went to see a play named 'The Bee in Me' at the Unicorn Theatre. On the way back, we admired some of London's spectacular sites along the River Thames, which we studied as part of our Geography topic 'Our London.'
Year 5 have been busy planning and creating their very own knowledge posters to demonstrate everything that they have learnt about solubility during our unit: Materials and Their Properties.
They have learnt some of the things that can and cannot dissolve and that temperature affects the rate of solubility. They have also learnt about The Three S's - ask your child about them! During the last few weeks, Year 5 have had to design and carry out an absorbency enquiry to figure out which material would be best to mop up a water spillage.
They worked in pairs to work out their 'method', design a 'fair-test' & make predictions before carrying out the actual enquiry (experiment). They really enjoyed using the 'scientist safety goggles'.... maybe a bit 'too' much :) |
