In science we investigated how finches adapted to their habitat as the size and shape of their beaks evolved. We used a variety of tweezers to act as the different beaks and discovered that birds with thin and sharp beaks ate insects whereas birds with large and sturdy beaks ate nuts.
Last week Year 6 took part in an informative workshop to help them become aware of the realities and issues surrounding gang involvement. They learnt strategies to help avoid the risk becoming involved.
Earlier this year Y6 started a project and created backgrounds from a storyboard. During a workshop this week we used an app called Stop Motion Studio to animate our characters. We will share our animation once the footage has been edited.
Last week Year 5 visited the Guildhall Arts Gallery.
They observed and discussed the paintings on display. They listened to the stories of the men behind the painting and explored potential meanings. The children used words and phrases to explore what the paintings expressed to them. This week we will use these words and phrases as a stimulus to create poetic writing along side a professional poet. Year 5 have really engaged with Destination Reader this week.
We have analysed and practiced using our learning behaviours in the classroom. They are excited to demonstrate and apply these learning skills in the context of a reading lesson over the coming weeks. Well Done Year 5, keep it up! |
