Year 4 took part in the Tower Hamlets 'Slambassadors' Poetry Competition. The children participated in poetry workshops at school and five children were then selected to perform their poetry at an event at Morpeth Secondary School. The children did really well, they all received certificates and Esther won the prize for 'Best Solo Performance'.
Well done Year 4! Kate and Tahmina are really proud! As part of their topic on chocolate year 4 have been learning about teeth and eating in their science lessons.
The children investigated the effect of different liquids on teeth. The children were able to use chicken bones instead of teeth as bones are made up of calcium just like teeth. They kept the bones in three liquids cola, vinegar and water and observed them overtime. The children were surprised with the results, the bone in water remained the same, the bone in the cola become discolored and the bone in the vinegar became soft and bendy! Why do you think that is? From their experiment, Year 4 have learnt that both sugar and acid cause tooth decay because vinegar contains a lot of acid and cola contains sugar and they both damaged the bones. The children were able to talk about the results and were able to draw very good conclusions using scientific language. |
