On Friday 1st November Year 6 were invited to a workshop run by Onjali Rauf, from East London. She is the award-winning author of 'The Boy at the Back of the Class' which we have been reading as part of the Tower Hamlets Book Award for this year.

Onjali was very inspirational and talked to us about the refugee crisis which inspired her to write the book.   She has worked with many refugees and those that help them over the past few years.  She has also set up her own charity, Making Herstory, set up in memory of her aunt, supporting women's rights.

She told us stories of children who still live in refugee camps and adults who work tirelessly to help them every single day.

She also reminded us of refugees that have already had such positive impacts on the quality of all our lives, past and present, such as Alfred Einstein and Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google.

We were given signed copies of her book and all the class were able to choose their own book provided by the London Childrens Book Project.  We were so excited that we started reading them on the tube on the way home!
