Year 6 were invited to a special prize giving event at City Hall on Wednesday 30th October to celebrate coming 2nd out of over 1000 classes in the Sumdog competition during London Maths Week in July.
They met the CEO of London Maths Week and we thanked her for providing funding to all schools in London so extra events could be run in schools like our Festival of Triangles at William Davis. The children were awarded medals, a special 'goody bag' and treated to some delicious snacks plus a bracing walk over Tower Bridge to get there! A particular thank you as well to Shamima who gave up her time after school to come with us and well done to all of Year 6-we are all really proud of you! Earlier this week we visited the University of East London’s SportsDock to take part in an indoor cricket competition. One of our teams came in third place and the other in fifth place.
We have been learning about Shackleton and took part in a ‘polar explorers’ workshop. By looking at historical evidence we were able to imagine what it would be like to be stuck in the ice and how crews kept themselves entertained for months on end.
Explorers hauled sledges loaded with everything they needed across the Arctic and each man pulled the equivalent of twice his body weight. We had a go at trying to pull the sledges and our hands were very sore! |
