Year 2 E1 Sports Day

28/6/2021

On Wednesday Year 2 took part in the E1 Sports Day at Weavers Fields.

We got given a country to represent and did our absolute best across 6 different sports activities.

We had a great time and played with each other fairly.

Computing: Using Scratch Jr to code.

15/6/2021

At the moment in year 2, we are learning about coding in computing.

We had a go at tinkering with scratch. We used 'blocks' to create a piece of code. Blocks are similar to commands.

We used a sheet to explore what each block did. We found out so many new things!

English: making rockets to write instructions about.

27/5/2021

In year 2, we have just read ‘Man on the Moon’ by Simon Bartram.

We decided to design and make a  new rocket for Bob, the main character.

Have a look at our fantastic rockets. We had to follow instructions to make sure we made our rockets correctly.

Science revisit: materials

29/4/2021

This week in Year 2, we revisited our science learning from autumn term.

We remembered back to when we studied materials and their properties and uses.

We felt and explored materials and then we had a go at remembering the properties of each material.

Have a look: can you identify the materials?

English: Editing a piece of writing

16/12/2020

We have been writing our own version of the story called 'The Disgusting Sandwich'.

We had a go at improving Andrew's work by using a checklist to help us.

We helped make Andrew's writing even more exciting by adding in things such as adverbials and suffixes.

English: Retelling a story

12/11/2020

We finished our park story maps and, using sequencing language, we retold the story of the disgusting sandwich's journey! Keep your eyes on this blog to see what happens next!

History: Great Fire of London

13/10/2020

We have started to learn about the Great Fire of London, which destroyed much of London 350 years ago.

We explored what homes were made from all those years ago. We found out they were made from wood, straw and tar, which are all very flammable. We also found out that London was very dirty and living conditions were very cramped.

So then we decided to create our own houses from the time! Have a look at our amazing efforts!

Science: Testing which materials are waterproof

28/9/2020

For science this term, Year 2 are exploring materials and their uses. We have been looking how we use materials and their properties.

Today we decided to conduct a fair test to see which materials are water proof and which are not. We will use this information to make our own nappy next week!

We tested paper, cling wrap, kitchen towel, plastic and foil. Which do you think was the most waterproof?
