Physical Education (PE)
Each year group, including Nursery and Reception, receive two PE sessions a week.
PE Lessons
Teachers will either deliver both sessions using a scheme of work produced by Val Sabin and covering either Dance, Gymnastics or Games objectives or they will teach one session and the other session will be delivered by a school PE coach. This session will focus on a particular sport looking at, in Key Stage 1, more simple skills such as ball skills and basic rules of a game leading on to children taking part in team games in key stage 2.
Swimming
Each half term either Year 3, 4, 5 or 6 will undertake swimming lessons as one of their two PE sessions a week.
Bike Club
The school has completed its first year of working with Sustrans to implement the Bike It scheme which aims to raise awareness of cycling and scooting within the borough and beyond and promote it as a means of travelling to and from school. Pupils from Years 5 and 6 are nominated to be Bike It Crew members and hold responsibilities such as helping with events run in school, attending after school Bike Clubs and delivering assemblies. This year a Bike Club will be held once a week until just before the end of the Autumn term.
Sports Clubs
The school offers a range of sports clubs before and after school for both Key Stage 1 and 2. These are run by our school sports coach and coaches from the borough.
Year 3 are assessed for a gifted and talented programme that takes place out of school hours and this is run by a sports coach from the borough. The information is given to the class teacher to inform their planning and teaching.
