Year 4 visited the Guildhall Art gallery where remains of a roman amphitheatre can be found!
We took part in an Explorer’s session where we found out all about the gladiators who fought in the arenas. We also met Andrew who is an archaeologist who we examined Roman artefacts with. During our art lesson we explored how to make different shades of green by mixing together different amounts of blue, yellow and white. Children then painted the different shades of green onto their palettes.
Year 3 children have been studying the life cycle of flowering plants. In small groups children dissected a tulip and created a poster. The children labelled the main parts and their functions. Children then presented their posters to the rest of the class.
In science this half term Year 3 are studying plants. During this lesson children were given the opportunity to take a closer look at the roots of plants using magnifying glasses. Children were able to analyse the root hairs and draw a diagram of their observations.
Year 3 visited the Science Museum. The children visited the ‘the secret life of the home’ gallery. They explored how everyday objects used within the home have changed over the years. The children also attended the ‘Wonderlab’ gallery where they took part in over 50 different experiments of their choice.
Year 3 children were locating countries on globes and identifying which continent they are in, whether they are in the northern or southern hemisphere and what the climate is like in each of the countries. Children then made their own globes using paper lanterns and paint.
In History Year 3 children were looking at some artifacts and discussing how methods of communication have changed over the years. Children were then tasked with the challenge to order the different methods of communication on a time line.
Year 3 have been learning about how to calculate change. This week we set up our own shops and took it in turns to be shopkeepers and customers. Children were tasked with the challenge to calculate change correctly. Children also explored different ways of paying the exact amount.
Year 3 will be writing their own newspaper articles so in preparation for this they spent some time analysing newspapers. They created posters about the different features that they identified and shared it with the rest of the class. Year 3 visited the ‘London before London’ gallery at the Museum Of London. Children saw lots of artefacts from the Stone and Bronze Ages. During the visit children sketched their choice of artefact in their books and labelled or made notes about them.
