On Wednesday 23rd January Year 6 visited Parliament. We were given a tour of Westminster Hall, St Stephen’s Hall and the Lords Chamber.
We saw the statues that the suffragettes chained themselves to in St Stephen’s Hall. On one statue the boot was damaged and there are now missing spikes on the spur which was snapped when the chains were being cut. This has not been repaired and has become a symbol of women’s rights.
During our workshop we elected leaders. After finding out about different campaigning methods we created our own campaigns. The winning campaign was to ban university fees.
Voting pads were used during an interactive quiz.
We were lucky enough to meet our local MP Rushanara Ali.
