Year 2 began their new 'Islands' art project today. We looked at some famous works by the American artist Edward Hopper and then tried to complete one half of his lighthouse painting using sketch pencils, oil pastels and chalk.
We tried really hard to make sure the lines in the centre linked up and to select and create the correct colours. Over the next few weeks we will be working in groups to plan and create a lighthouse collage. Year 2 have now completed their sunflower paintings using fabric paints on a canvas bag. They had to mix their own colours and select different-sized brushes depending on how big the shape was that needed to be painted.
Year 2 spent their maths lesson today revisiting their learning about 2D shapes. They begun their lesson by working in pairs to create basic 2D shapes using rubber bands on geo boards. They then worked on their own to create the same shapes from scratch using rulers and the lines in their maths books to help them.
Everyone had improved their shape-drawing by the end of the lesson! Year 2 have been busy transferring their original sunflower designs on to their canvas shopping bags this week.
One group began to fill in their designs using fabric paints. The rest will complete theirs after the Easter holidays. The children are really excited to start painting their bags! As part of Year 2's Seeds & Stems unit, the children have been doing lots of art work around 'sunflowers'.
Here they are developing their drawing skills. We begun by looking at a range of sunflowers drawings and thinking about what made them look so 'real' We then developed our own Steps To Success to create our very own sunflower drawings from photographs. They produced some amazingly detailed work! Year 2 made their own clocks today as part of their new topic about 'time'. During this topic we will be revising our learning about 'o 'clock' times as well as learning about 'half past' times.
Please help your child by helping them to tell the time at home. Over the past few weeks Year 2 have been learning about the Christian celebration of Easter and the Jewish celebration of Passover.
We have read stories and watched short animations that explain the stories behind these two important festivals. Today the children started to create their own Sedar meal plates. Sedar plates are used during Passover meal celebrations in Jewish homes. The plates contain different types of food that remind Jewish people about the different parts from the Passover story. Please ask your children to retell the story to you. Year Two began their new computing topic this week. They will be learning about the use of technology in the modern world and how it helps us in our everyday lives.
Here they are sorting household items into two groups; those that have computers in them and those that don't. Year 2 created their own rhymes in pairs after reading 'Jim and The Beanstalk'. They had to create their own rhyming couplets based on the well-known rhyme 'Fee Fi Fo Fum'. The lesson also helped them to explore alliteration by using the alphabet to change the first sounds in each word so that they all matched.
Year 2 continued with their 'Dressing Up' art project today by exploring a range of printing apparatus to create different prints and textures in their sketchbooks and on A3 paper. As you can see, they absolutely love their practical art lessons!!
They will now use these ideas to create their own original designs for a textile pattern next lesson. |
