As a treat for Year 2 for all of their achievements this year, we threw a slumber party for them.We prepared the room during their lunch break and they were VERY excited when they got back to class.
They quickly changed into their PJs, collected their teddies then selected their cosy spot for the start of the movie. During the movie we had ice cream, popcorn, biscuits and drinks. By the end it had descended into one big pillow fight! :) We'd like to wish Year 2 a safe & happy summer holidays and all the best for the start of Year 3! In today's lesson we thought about the effects of name-calling. We spoke about why someone may call somebody a horrible name and how it would make us feel if it happened to us. We then discussed what we should do if we witnessed any name-calling or if it happened to us.
We ended the session by talking about what we had learnt. During today's lesson the children got into groups and acted out their section of the story map. They had to come up with actions and movements to help retell the class text 'George and The Dragon". This will then help them with their retelling later on in the week.
After some rehearsal time, we put on a mini theatre show to showcase our talents. Year 2 were very impressive! Here are close-ups of our whole class collage. 21 x individual A4 collages were combined to create one giant class depiction of the Great Fire of London.
It looks amazing! This week the children completed their individual collages using strips of black card that they had drawn and cut out themselves.
They then assembled the strips to resemble burnt-out building structures in the foreground of their pictures. Watch out for the whole class collage scene coming soon! Year 2 kicked of their Art topic today with a double collage session. We are creating individual collage scenes using tissue paper and black card which will then be used to create a whole-class Great Fire of London collage next week.
We practised the skills of tearing, sticking, layering and overlapping to produce our pictures. Next week we will add on the burnt building structures. Watch this space for the finished pieces! Today in 'Computing' Year 2 got to explore the Beebots for the first time. They worked in small groups to get used to the robots and learn about how fast they moved and how far they travelled. They then used this information to create instructions to help their Beebot travel around a seaside town map.
Year 2 completed their family booklets today. Many thanks to all of the parents that completed and returned the family names sheet.
Today Year 2 were learning about 'metres' during maths. They had to work in groups to find objects in the classroom that were longer and shorter than their 'metre' stick and then record them on their charts
Today Year 2 were split into different groups to 'story-map' the different sections of our class text: 'The Secret of Black Rock'.
This involved working as a team to illustrate the different parts of their section of the story on large sugar paper using felts. The children had to make sure that their parts were in order and that they included key words and phrases from the text. Once completed, Year 2 will be able to use them to verbally retell the whole story in the correct order. This will later aid their independent writing. |
