At William Davis we have been very lucky this term as we have had the opportunity to work with Bow Arts on a special project. We have been looking at mark making and drawing.
Our theme was centred around bees. Have a look at our beautiful artwork. Can you bee-lieve how hard we worked? We were also very well bee-haved and listened carefully to all instructions. What are we using? What different techniques can you see? We've started Rock Star time tables in Year 2 this half term.
We have to do as many multiplication questions as possible while listening to famous rock musicians such as Bruce Springsteen, Queen and Jimi Hendrix. Here we are practising really hard! How many of your two times table can you do in 3 minutes? In Science we have been learning all about eating a healthy diet.
We have learned about the different food groups and what makes a meal healthy. Look at our pictures. What foods can you see? Can you see any carbohydrates? What about vegetables? On Tuesday 5th of November, we went to make pizza at Pizza Express! Our topic for this half term is food, so it was great to be able to see all of the fresh ingredients we need to make tasty pizza.
We had to listen to instructions very carefully to make our pizza. Have a look at our pictures! What are we doing? What ingredients can you see? What is your favourite type of pizza? As a part of out topic on Toys, we have begun to explore wind-up toys in Year 2.
Then, one day after lunch time, Andrew started singing his favourite nursery rhyme, The Incy Wincy Spider! We then thought that, maybe, we could make our own spider to wind up and and down the water spout. We then created our own spider, using various materials. Stay tuned to this blog to see we make them move! Our first topic for Year 2 is Toys.
At the moment we are learning about the history of toys. So far, we have compared old and new toys and worked out ways to tell if a toy is old. We then got the chance to visit the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green to explore old toys. We were really lucky to see many old toys; one toy was even 150 years old! After comparing and exploring old toys, we got to make our own 'old' toy. We used wooden pegs, rubber bands and fabric to make them. Look at our pictures; can you make your own toy at home? Parents: be sure to check out the Museum of Childhood. It has lots of fun activities for you and your children to enjoy! This half term, Year 2's topic is all about Toys!
We will be learning about old and new toys and thinking about some of the toys our grandparents and parents played with. We will also be designing our own toy in DT. To start off with though, we decided to bring in and share our own favourite toys. We explained why we liked our toys so much and even got to show others how we play with our toy. Stay tuned to the blog for more pictures soon! Using magnifying glasses, we observed the shells we collected from the beach.
We had to observe really closely and draw our shells noting it's features. Do you know where shells come from? What creatures have shells? Inspired by our seaside trip to Chalkwell, we made our own beaches using shells and sand we brought back from the seaside.
We had to work collaboratively with our partners to make sure we made an accurate beach. We also had to think about some of the animals we might find on the beach, as well as some of the geographical features. Our topic for this half term in Year 1 is called 'By the Sea'. We thought it would be an amazing idea for us to visit the seaside to help us with our learning about the sea!
We left school at 9:30 and walked to Whitechapel station. From there we caught the tube to West Ham. Then we got a special train to Chalkwell Beach. We had a fun time exploring the beach with our parents and we even had ice-cream! We will be writing about our trip in English and using the shells and pebbles we collected in our science lessons. |
