We have been really busy in Year 1 designing and making an animal mask!
We will be exploring animals in science, so we thought it would be an amazing idea to design a mask of our favourite animal.
Firstly, we had to plan our mask by drawing what it might look like. We also needed to think about our animals features.
Then we made our masks using a range of materials.
Finally, we had to think about how we could keep our masks on. We decided to try and use string and a hole punch to keep our masks on.
Here are Abdullah,Umamah and Saiful showing us their fantastic animal masks!
In Year 1 we are reading 'Beegu' in English. It is an interesting story about an alien who crashes to Earth!
We decided that it would be a good idea to create our own alien model using clay. Here we are molding our clay into our shapes.
Soon we will use and mix primary colors to paint our aliens. Stay tuned!
Today in Science we began to look at materials.
We identified and matched up materials to their correct name.
Then we looked around the classroom to see if we could find anything that was made from wood, metal or fabric.
Next we will be thinking about what sort of materials we have in our home. Can you think of any?
In Year 1 this week we have been planning our own story.
We are reading 'Man on the Moon' and decided to create our own story, but this time, with our very own alien as the main character!
But before we started writing, we retold our story to our partner using our special sentence starter prompts.
We are working so hard in Year 1 to be excellent communicators and we all did such a wonderful job retelling our stories.
On Thursday Year 1 visited the Science museum to learn more about how astronauts travel into space!
We are reading 'Man on the Moon' in English and learning about Neil Armstrong in History, so our trip to the museum was really interesting for us.
We learned about people going into space and how they get there. Maria even got to dress in a space sleeping bag!
Afterwards we looked around the museum and found some rockets!
For the past few weeks in Year 1, we have been learning how to write a postcard!
We identified some of the things we needed for a good postcard and wrote a postcard to Max in the Wild Place.
Then we decided to write a postcard to someone in our family. We worked so hard writing and improving our postcards.
Today we finally sent them! Here are Kaiyan, Ali and Umamah showing us their postcards, ready to send!
Year 1 parents: keep an eye on your mail......
